Half Marathons Race To The Front

In some ways it’s easy to explain the growing popularity of the half marathon. It’s obviously not as long as the 26.2 mile race, but you feel a sense of accomplishment that’s similar to finishing a marathon when you cross the line after running half that distance. Last year for the first time ever in the U.S., more than 2 million people finished half marathons, according to survey out this month from Running USA. That survey also shows that among core runners nationwide, the half marathon (13.1 miles) is now the favorite distance.
Mike Silverman is race co-director of the Covered Bridges Half Marathon. (Greta Kaemmer)“The half marathon has become like the 10K [6.2 miles] of yesteryear and there’s a lot more around,” says Mike Silverman, co-director of the Covered Bridges Half Marathonin Vermont. “You know it’s a little more challenging. So I think it’s the next step for the person in the 5K, the 10K. But right now it seems to be booming. The half marathon is where everybody is going towards.”

CBHM Rocks Recycling! #cbhm #cbhm2015 #halfmarathon #VT #NH #VermontTourism

To CBHM Runners, Family, Friends and Spectators!
Thanks for all your help with the recycling efforts at the half marathon on Sunday.

Our system gets better every year and we continue to see a greater percentage of the waste diverted from the landfill. Once again we got lots of positive comments and thanks from the runners for our recycling efforts. We couldn't do it without such dedicated volunteers.

  • More than 500 pounds of compost went to Sunrise Farm in Hartford.
  • At the start we collected twice as much recycling as trash
  • At the finish we half filled a 15 yard dumpster with recycling
  • 10 yard trash container was almost empty
  • In the rolling bins we collected three times as much recycling as trash
Thanks again

Timing: We will be using the ChronoTrack "B" Tag Timing System again this year.

The B Tag is attached to the back of your bib, eliminating the fussing with your shoe laces. Racers cross Timing Mats at the Start and Finish to give you both an official "Gun" time as well as the unofficial "Net" time from when you cross the start mats. You, and your B Tag, must pass over both mat systems (start and finish) in order to receive your "Net" time. If your start time is not recorded, you will only receive your "Gun time". The official order of finish for the first three male and female finishers will be based on “Gun” time. For all but these 6 finishers, we will use “Net” times for official order of finish. The USAT&F does accept “Net” times for rankings for masters runners (40 and over). However, it is unclear if they will accept “Net” times for other age groups. Web site results on cbhm.com will be posted in both "Gun" time order as well as "Net" time order.
For the B Tag to work, it must be pinned on your outermost layer of clothing on your front and NOT folded or wrinkled.

Buses Back to Quechee Village Lot-Runners can board buses to be transported up the hill from the Finish Line to where you parked your car pre-race.
Note: This is the SAFEST WAY to get back to your car!
Race Finishing Medals: Will be given out at the Finish Line

T-shirt sizes are by gender because of the different cuts.
